“Vivienne bit the inside of her cheek as the maps before her whispered taunts of all the paths she would never be free to follow.”

This was such an interesting concept. Of course the concept of the adventure to mythical lands isn’t new but I really loved this one. Vivienne was a great main character - she was reluctant and not at all prepared, and that made her so relatable. She had skills, she’d been studying for her whole life but she wasn’t ready at all for an adventure, especially one that was so important. The events that led up to her being sent on the voyage made her determination understandable, and obviously incredibly sad.

I loved all of the surrounding characters - even the baddies, they rounded out the ensemble well. I also LOVED the presence of the gods and the way their wrath or happiness is shown throughout the story.

All-in-all, this was a wonderful story, and I cannot wait for more of Vivienne’s adventure! Thank you to Alycia and The Nerd Fam for giving me the opportunity to read and review this beautiful story.
